Everything on the grounds is set up for unwinding. The pool is perfect for lounging. The beach is just steps away. The water is warm and inviting for swimming or light surfing. There are tidepools in either direction and a great beach village nearby, ready to serve up tasty fish tacos.
It is a rustic sort of resort. Don’t go if you’re expecting silk sheets or A/C.
Our ‘room’ was actually a two-story bungalow, with all kinds of space. There was a 2-person hammock on the patio perfect for reading or dozing. The bathroom is “outdoors”, though the whole space is really like a private walled garden so it’s kind of fun showering or going to the bathroom with a breeze and tropical birds chirping. True the water isn’t heated, but it’s refreshing once you get used to it and not all that cold. You may run into mosquitoes or bugs you’ve never seen at night… so bring your Deet or the hotel can provide.
The hotel restaurant offers a large menu. We quickly found our favorites, like the whole snapper and fresh-cut French fries. Truth be told, I was pregnant and a little concerned about water/fresh food safety. Happily, the water and ice are filtered, so I enjoyed smoothies every day poolside…
The only downside we saw is that what was on-hand one day may run out the next. If you want something, just be sure to tell Elmer in advance and he will hook you up!
Elmer, who is the on-site manager, ensured we had everything we needed at all times, whether it was diet coke or bug spray or sunscreen or extra pillows or a high-powered fan. He and his staff took amazingly great care of us during our week-long stay. It was the perfect place for us and we’ve been dreaming about it ever since.
We’d definitely stay at Hotel Teonoste again!
