Temascal: the sauna treatment of indigenous origin
The word Temascal means the premises and activity that it is done. The enclosure is built of adobe. Previously red-hot volcanic rocks are introduced in the Temascal. The rocks are poured with an infusion of medicinal plants to produce steam.
Multiple entries are made to steam sauna with dips in the sea between each of these sessions. In the end, we share a fruit table beside the stove, where we also talk about the experience. While maintaining respect for this ancient Indian tool, the ceremony focuses on the therapeutic aspect and its benefits.
